Question: will this charge a second battery when there is not a phone in the cradle
Answer: Yes it will.

Question: will the extra battery slot charge the extended battery for the evo 4g i'm assumming its bigger because the back cover is bigger
Answer: Yes, you may charge the extended battery in to the battery slot by itself.

Question: will it charge BOTH the phone and 2nd battery while plugged into the wall and NOT connected to a PC?
Answer: You will be able to charge and sync with the computer too, but the only difference will be the power strength will be low than instead of charging the cradle into the wall.

Comment: I rated 4 stars because whenever I charge the batteries both spare and with the cellphone, its not 100% after at least of 2hrs of charging. I should have rated 5 stars if batteries are fully charge.

Comment: I always keep spare batteries with me. This is perfect because you can charge an individual battery and the battery in the phone at the same time or one at a time.
