Question: Why does the generic cable make you turn off the device to charge, yet this one doesn't state you have to do the same?
Answer: When charging the original Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 via a USB port you need to power off the tablet in order to get a charge. The amount of power most tablets need for charge is very large compared to what the USB port can give off. When using the an aftermarket or OEM charging cable and a USB power wall adapter you can charge the unit without having to turn the tablet off.
